The American Music Awards (AMA) have announced the inclusion of the first-ever dedicated K-pop award category for this year’s awards show.
When announcing the nominees yesterday (October 13), the AMAs added that they were preparing to present the Favorite K-pop Artist award, one of four new award categories for the awards show. of this year. Notably, the AMAs are the first major American pop music awards show to have a category dedicated to the genre.
The nominees for the inaugural award are BLACKPINK, BTS, SEVENTEEN, Tomorrow X Together and TWICE.

Along with their nomination for Favorite K-pop Artist, BTS also received their fourth consecutive nomination for Favorite Pop Duo or Group. The group will face artists like Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Måneskin and OneRepublic.

The AMAs, billed as “the biggest fan-voted awards show in the world,” will air live from the Microsoft Theater at LA Live in Los Angeles, CA on November 20 at 8:00 PM EST/PST. Votes for all categories can be cast via the official AMA website or via Twitter. Voting for the favorite K-Pop artist award, however, is set to open on November 1.
Separately, HYBE recently launched BTS’s “The City” project in Busan, ahead of the septet’s upcoming free concert in the city.
